Workshop: Neonatal Advanced Resuscitation and Stabilisation (NARS)
This comprehensive two-day workshop is for medical practitioners, GP obstetricians, midwives and other health professionals seeking additional skills, knowledge and experience in caring for the newborn who is born early or in poor condition, and requires special and/or intensive care.
This engaging course is primarily delivered through skills work stations, case studies and simulations. You will have the opportunity to learn important practical skills including:
- Endotracheal intubation
- Laryngeal mask airway
- Chest needling and intercostal catheter insertion
- Emergency access (including umbilical vein catheterisation and intraosseous insertion)
We will run simulations of common neonatal scenarios where you learn essential skills in:
- Communication
- Crisis resource management
- Advanced resuscitation
- Post resuscitation care and stabilisation prior to transport
This workshop aims to give you the confidence to deliver the highest level of care possible and help you overcome some of the challenges faced in resource-limited settings.
Eligibility: GP obstetricians, medical practitioners and midwives. Priority is given to those working in the local region.
Length: Two Days – 8:00am-4:30pm
Cost:
Midwives – $480 for both days (including GST)
GP/GP obstetrician – $720 for both days (including GST)
The cost of this workshop is subsidised by WA Country Health Service through the Better Medical Care Initiative.
Accreditation: This workshop is pending accreditation with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine for continuing professional development hours for the 2023-2025 triennium.
