Western Australia (WA) has a rapidly increasing multicultural population, with unique demographics of culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) communities in WA adding to the complexity of the contributing factors which can increase the risk of injury within multicultural communities. The three leading injury areas affecting people from CaLD communities in WA are drowning, intentional self-harm, and violence. With a number of health programs out there already tackling these prevalent issues, how do we better engage with multicultural communities to address these areas of concern?

Join Injury Matters as Deborah Pyatt, a training consultant with 30 years of experience working with diverse communities, will be facilitating this interactive and engaging workshop. This training aims to build the capacity of health and community professionals to increase understanding of the impact of key cultural aspects in CaLD communities in WA to better engage, plan, and implement programs and services which target injury prevention and safety promotion.

This online workshop training aims to:

  • Increase awareness of the leading causes of injury within the CaLD community in WA.
  • Increase knowledge of the barriers CaLD communities face in accessing appropriate services.
  • Increase knowledge of the underlying cultural, social, and psychosocial factors that influence injury within CaLD communities.
  • Increase skills in applying culturally inclusive practices for accessible and appropriate health programs and service delivery for the WA CaLD community.
