Diabetes Update for Health Professionals in Aged Care

The training will provide participants with an increased understanding of diabetes and the services available to their patients. Training is suitable for: Enrolled Nurses, Registered Nurses, GPs, Allied Health Professionals & Pharmacists. On completion of the study day participants will be able to: – Gain understanding of the impact of diabetes for the older Australian. – Identify risk factors for diabetes, common signs and symptoms and diagnostic criteria. – Identify the types of diabetes and implications for management. – Understand blood glucose monitoring and target ranges. – Review common oral and injectable diabetes medications – Consider the impact of exercise and nutrition on blood glucose levels. – Recognise and review the management of hypoglycaemia. – Identify and the consider the impact of long term complications of diabetes on their care. – Discuss the role of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS).
