DESCRIPTION:The PROMPT program is delivered in Australia under license from the PROMPT Maternity Foundation UK PROMPT is an evidence-based\, multi-professional obstetric training package for all clinicians required to respond to obstetric emergencies in maternity hospitals. The program aims to reduce preventable harm for mothers and their babies which is best achieved by training staff in their local\, real-time working clinical environment. \nThe PROMPT training package improves teamwork and consists of interactive lectures\, drills and workshops\, providing hands-on experience of practical skills in simulated obstetric emergency situations. The key components of PROMPT training are that it is multi-professional and locally situated using the whole team in their usual response roles. \nEligibility: All Maternity Care practitioners working in a maternity hospital – Midwives\, Obstetricians\, GPAs\, GPOs and those who are required to respond to maternity emergencies including ward nurses\, after hours managers and theatre staff. SUMMARY:Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD)
DESCRIPTION:Introduction\nAs you will be aware\, Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) is a legal end of life option for eligible patients\nsince 1 July 2021. People in the advanced stages of a terminal illness now have a choice in the\nmanner and timing of their death. As a clinician you may have experienced situations where your\npatients have sought information or access to VAD and perhaps have been unclear with how to\naddress a First Request for VAD. Our legislation does enshrine the right to decline should you not\nwish to be involved in VAD\, there is no need to continue reading if you do not wish to be involved.\nInformation on VAD can be found on the Department of Health (DoH) voluntary assisted dying\nwebsite here.\nThree types of participating practitioner will assist a patient to access VAD:\n• The coordinating practitioner is responsible for overseeing the majority of the VAD process\n• The consulting practitioner gives an opinion on eligibility against defined criteria\n• The administering practitioner administers the VAD substance (in cases where the patient has\nmet the eligibility criteria for this option\, in contrast to self-administration).\nFor information on Health Professional Participation – Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) in Western\nAustralia\, click here\nVoluntary Assisted Dying Participating Practitioner\nWorkshop\nTo participate in VAD within Western Australia and fulfil the above roles\, there is mandatory DoH\nonline VAD approved training that must be completed and we recognise that finding the time and\nopportunity to complete this can be a challenge in busy clinical contexts.\nTo support SMHS consultants interested in exploring key participating practitioner roles\, we will be\nhosting a full day training workshop during which participants will complete the ~6-hour DoH\nmandatory training package together\, with the opportunity for discussion and reflection during the\nsession of any issues raised. The workshop will be conducted in a non-clinical area. We will have\nrepresentatives from the Statewide VAD Services through the day\, including Participating\nPractitioners \nIt is hoped that consultants/eligible practitioners who subsequently would be willing to offer their\nexpertise in facilitating assessments for VAD for SMHS patients will apply; including Nurse\nPractitioners.\nThe Practitioner Training Workshop will be held on Friday 11 August at the FSH Education Building\,\nwith the opportunity for a further workshop later in the year if demand is high. Lunch and morning tea\nare provided\, please provide any dietary restrictions.\nPractitioner Training – Preparation\nPrior to attending the Voluntary Assisted Dying Participating Practitioner Workshop\, it is vitally\nimportant to commence access to the DOH Mandatory training package. DESCRIPTION:The PROMPT program is delivered in Australia under license from the PROMPT Maternity Foundation UK PROMPT is an evidence-based\, multi-professional obstetric training package for all clinicians required to respond to obstetric emergencies in maternity hospitals. The program aims to reduce preventable harm for mothers and their babies which is best achieved by training staff in their local\, real-time working clinical environment. \nThe PROMPT training package improves teamwork and consists of interactive lectures\, drills and workshops\, providing hands-on experience of practical skills in simulated obstetric emergency situations. The key components of PROMPT training are that it is multi-professional and locally situated using the whole team in their usual response roles. \nEligibility: All Maternity Care practitioners working in a maternity hospital – Midwives\, Obstetricians\, GPAs\, GPOs and those who are required to respond to maternity emergencies including ward nurses\, after hours managers and theatre staff. DESCRIPTION:The Rural and Remote Emergency Medicine Workshop is an interactive two-day program that focuses on developing the emergency management skills and knowledge of rural and remote clinicians. Facilitated by experienced emergency and critical care clinicians the workshop addresses both adult and paediatric emergency presentations in a rural and remote context\, including: \n• Identification and management of critically ill patients\n• Approach and management of the agitated patient in a rural ED\n• Management of severe traumatic brain injury\n• Advanced airway management\n• Emergency procedural skills\n• Approach to Mass Casualty Events in the rural and remote setting including pre- and in-hospital preparedness and management \nImmersive simulation scenarios will provide participants the opportunity to apply\, practice and consolidate acquired skills and knowledge throughout the course. \nProgram:\nDay 1: 7.45am to 6.00pm (followed by networking event)\nDay 2: 8.00am to 4.30pm \nEligibility: All medical practitioners\, emergency department doctors and nurses\, and paramedics. SUMMARY:ARC Advanced Life Support | Broome
DESCRIPTION:An Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) accredited course\, this two day program aims to teach the theory and practical skills to effectively manage cardio/respiratory arrest\, peri-arrest situations and special circumstances\, and to prepare senior members of a multidisciplinary team to manage the patient until transfer to a critical care area if possible. The course focuses on achieving advanced resuscitation competencies and is also designed to develop leadership and team skills in managing such emergencies. \nCourse Content:\n• Recognition\, assessment and management of the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach\n• Treat cardiac and/or respiratory arrest\, including manual defibrillation\n• Management of life-threatening arrhythmias\n• Preparing and planning post resuscitation care\n• Care for the deteriorating patient or patient in cardiac arrest in circumstances such as asthma\, anaphylaxis\, and pregnancy\n• Lead a team\, work as a team member\, and use structured communication skills including giving an effective handover\n• Candidates who successfully complete the program receive an ARC ALS2 Provider certificate\, valid for 4 years. \nCost:\n$300 for WACHS employees\n$600 for other Health Service employees\n$1500 for external candidates

DESCRIPTION:The National Health Education and Training in Simulation (NHET-Sim) program is a nationwide training program for healthcare professionals and their educators aimed at improving clinical training capacity. This core module covers basic principles of simulation with a focus on educational design for simulation scenarios\, briefing and debriefing practices. We consider what it means to be a simulation educator. By attending the workshop\, this module facilitates formation of a local community of practice by bringing participants together to discuss and practice Simulation Based Education (SBE) and training techniques.
