DESCRIPTION:The Rural Doctors’ Association of Western Australia and Mindful Meditation Australia have teamed up to bring rural doctors this introduction to mindfulness. This comes at a time where the healthcare system is stretched like we have never seen it\, burn out is high and self care is extremely important. As busy professionals\, mindfulness is the perfect exercise to engage in within all aspects of your life – it’s free\, doesn’t require any equipment or lycra\, it can be done anywhere and only takes a few minutes every day. SUMMARY:Setting the record straight on evidence-based exercises for falls prevention
DESCRIPTION:Falls are a major public health concern – they are common in people aged 65 and older\, and are the leading cause of injury in this age group. Around one-third of generally healthy people aged 65 and older will have at least one fall each year. It is important that health professionals working with older adults implement and promote evidence-based exercises that can decrease the incidence of fall related injury. DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 has had an impact on the mental health and well-being of older adults in Western Australia. Social isolation is a continuing problem for older adults and may lead to loneliness. Social isolation is the absence of relationships with family and friends on an individual level and with society on a broader level. Good mental health contributes greatly to an overall feeling of well-being.
