SUMMARY:A Lens on Falls: Vision and falls prevention among older adults
DESCRIPTION:$15 \nTHU June 2 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm \nA Lens on Falls: Vision and falls prevention among older adults \nAs people age\, it is common for their visual function to decrease\, which is associated with an increased risk of falling. Older adults with vision loss are twice as likely to fall than older adults without vision loss. Vision plays a key role in the balance and control required to carry out daily activities with older adults relying more heavily on visual information to maintain their balance. Good vision also allows older adults to identify hazards or obstacles in their environment and navigate safely around them. \nInjury Matters\, through the Stay On Your Feet® program\, and in partnership with Vision Australia WA\, are hosting a 2-hour interactive training workshop for health professionals on vision and falls prevention in older adults. The workshop aims for health professionals to better understand how poor or reduced vision affects falls in older adults and to increase their knowledge in effective strategies to reduce falls. \nThis workshop aims to: \n\nIncrease knowledge of risk factors for falls in older adults and age-related eye conditions\nIncrease knowledge of prevention strategies for vision impairment among older adults\nIncrease knowledge of interventions to reduce falls risk among older adults with vision impairment\nIncrease skills in using appropriate vision technology to reduce the risk of falls in older adults with vision impairment\nIncrease knowledge of effective eye health service delivery across regional and remote areas\nIncrease skills in using Telehealth to provide eye services to older adults in rural and remote areas.\n\nInjury Matters Cancellation and Refund Policy \nParticipants may request a refund or transfer their registration to another person if they are unable to attend. Cancellation or requests to transfer registration to another person must be received in writing via email info@stayonyourfeet.org.au\nNon-attendance or cancellations received within two (2) working days of the start of the workshop will incur the full fee. \nIf you are experiencing financial hardship but would like to attend this workshop\, please contact info@stayonyourfeet.org.au so we can accommodate for your needs. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Dive into the data: Injury Epidemiology Online Workshop
DESCRIPTION:FREE \nWED June 15 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm \n  \nDive into the data: Injury Epidemiology Online Workshop \nThe role of epidemiology in public health has come to light recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However\, epidemiological information has always been a core construct of injury prevention due to its ability to characterise the occurrence of injury\, identify at-risk population groups and assist in evaluating injury prevention strategies. \nHow do we access and interpret epidemiological data? \nWA injury prevention practitioners are fortunate to have access to multiple sources of epidemiological data to assist in quantifying the impact of injury on the community\, however it can be challenging to interpret the various forms of data available. \nJoin Injury Matters with guest facilitator Dr Lauren Fortington\, from Edith Cowan University\, for the Dive into the data: Injury Epidemiology Online Workshop. Lauren is a Senior Research Fellow in injury epidemiology at ECU and a member of the Australasian Epidemiological Association. \nDuring the workshop Lauren will share her knowledge regarding interpreting epidemiological data\, to enable participants to understand the core constructs of data and apply it to their role. \nThis online workshop aims to: \n\nIncrease knowledge of the role of epidemiology in injury prevention.\nIncrease skills in interpreting epidemiological injury data.\nIncrease knowledge of how to access WA injury data.\nIncrease confidence to use epidemiological data to influence injury prevention initiatives.\n\nWho can attend? \nThis online workshop is suitable for anyone looking to clarify or grow their ability to interpret injury epidemiological data\, including; public health practitioners\, health promotion professionals\, local government workers\, WA Country Health staff\, recent environmental science graduates or undergraduate health science students. \nOnline workshop access requirements\nThis interactive workshop will be run on the Zoom Meeting Platform and will involve being placed in a breakout room to participate in a group activity and discussions. To take part in this workshop you will need: \n\nAccess to a reliable internet connection.\nA device with both a camera and microphone.\n\nREGISTER HERE
