SUMMARY:Rural Emergency Advanced Clinical Training (REACT+) - Perth
DESCRIPTION:The two day course will be facilitated by a team of experienced emergency physicians with extensive pre course materials including a USB of the course skills and drills being provided to each participant prior to attending. The REACT+ course includes medical emergencies\, major trauma and cardiac arrest in children and adults as well as associated lifesaving procedural skills training. DESCRIPTION:When: Thursday 31 March\, 11AM – 12PM (AEDT) (8AM-9AM AWST) \nPresenters: Esther Toomey (Central and Eastern Sydney PHN)\, Kate Hocknull (Uniting Medically Supervised Injecting Centre) and Dylan Clay (Weave Youth and Community Services) \nAbout the presenters: \nEsther Toomey is Drug Health Program Officer at Central and Eastern Sydney PHN. Esther collaborates with drug and alcohol treatment services to support flexible and coordinated responses to the holistic health needs of community members experiencing harmful drug and alcohol use. With experience across mental health\, disability and drug and alcohol sectors\, Esther has a keen interest in trauma informed care; mental health and drug and alcohol support; access and equity; holistic health and wellbeing. \nKate Hocknull is a Clinical Nurse Consultant currently working at the Uniting Medically Supervised Injecting Centre in the role of Mental Health Nurse Coordinator. \nDylan Clay is the Program Manager for the Speak Out Dual Diagnosis program at Weave Youth and Community Services. Dylan has experience in supporting young people through therapeutic and holistic case management\, with a particular focus on homelessness and co-occurring mental health and alcohol and other drug use. Dylan is passionate about a skills and strengths-based approach to service delivery\, and is a strong advocate for disentangling the lines and barriers that can exist between alcohol and other drug (AOD) support and mental health support. \nKey learning outcomes: \nThis webinar will provide attendees with a practical understanding of: \n– How a Primary Health Network (Central and Eastern Sydney PHN) works with organisations to understand co-occurring AOD and mental health needs\, and builds capacity within the local workforce;\n– How to provide care for those with co-occurring mental health and AOD issues by utilising a person centred\, holistic approach and working collaboratively with other health care providers;\n– The importance of working holistically\, including how to consider the context\, goals and needs of a person;\n– How to work collaboratively and involve additional supports as a person’s needs are identified. \nREGISTER HERE

Foot health can affect an older adults’ posture\, stability\, balance\, and walking pattern\, influencing the risk of falls. A diagnosis of diabetes is a big risk factor to foot health\, with recent studies also linking peripheral neuropathy and falls. DESCRIPTION:FREE \nWED April 27 @ 10:00 am – 12:30 pm \nElder abuse recognition and response in older adult clients online workshop \nElder abuse is a serious public health issue\, estimated to affect 1 in 20 older adults in Western Australia. It can take many forms\, including financial\, social\, physical\, sexual\, psychological\, and emotional abuse\, and can occur in a range of different settings. Elder abuse can have ongoing health impacts on an individual\, such as physical injury\, poor mental health\, and increased risk of placement in residential aged care. \nAs with many forms of abuse\, it can be difficult for an individual experiencing elder abuse to speak out. The three leading injury areas affecting people from CaLD communities in WA are drowning\, intentional self-harm\, and violence. With a number of health programs out there already tackling these prevalent issues\, how do we better engage with multicultural communities to address these areas of concern? \n  \nJoin Injury Matters as Deborah Pyatt\, a training consultant with 30 years of experience working with diverse communities\, will be facilitating this interactive and engaging workshop.
